Beneath the Casa del Cardinale lies the large stable, characterised by a barrel vault, cobbled floors, and troughs for fodder. The column at the top of the sloping ramp leading to the stables was installed by Gelasio Caetani in 1903. It was assembled from various architectural fragments found in the courtyard. The castle stables were essential to daily life within the fortress, housing horses indispensable for military mobility and for the travels of the noble family.

Built in the 15th century during the Renaissance expansions, they also included storage areas for fodder and equipment used in horse care. During the Borgia ruling (1499), the stables were reinforced to accommodate warhorses and draught animals, crucial for transporting artillery and supplies. In more recent times, the space has also been used for chamber music concerts.
