Perched atop a dizzying limestone crag, Norma offers one of the most spectacular panoramas in the entire province, looking out like a natural balcony over the Oasis of Ninfa and the plains below. The current village emerged in the 11th century, when the inhabitants of the ancient city of Norba sought refuge on this more easily defensible height following the devastations that struck the region.
Inextricably linked to the history of the Caetani family, who held control for centuries, Norma maintains a typically medieval layout characterized by terraced houses and narrow streets that converge toward the lookout point. Beyond the allure of the nearby archaeological park, the historic center enchants visitors with its verticality and the raw stone of its buildings-testaments to a tenacious community that has long stood as the guardian of a rugged and rare beauty.
